Does Seasonic make good PSU's?

Ijust ordered a Seasonic Super Silencer 430 watt PSU from newegg. My pc is too loud. I disconnected the case fan but the psu still makes a little too much noise. I read a review saying the Seasonic SS series is arguably the quietest line of PSU's out there. Anyone here have this PSU in their system. Just wondering if it's reliable and if it's really as quiet as they say.

Oh it's actually S12 not supersilencer. I don't know where I got that from. but you know what I mean.

You can always mod the fan on the S12 to have a more quiet PSU. Try reading guides/forums at www.silentpcreview.com.

You can hook up the fan sensor lead to your mobo and control the S12's fan RPMs that way I think.

Also, you might want to check out any other sources of noise in your computer, particularly your CPU fansink, your NB fansink, your vid card fansink, and your case fans.

I would disconnect all the fans and just leave one running at a time to see which one is the noisiest. And while you are doing this, you might want to make sure you have no disc in your optical drives (they vibrate and rattle too).

I have a Super Tornado 350W on my sons pc and it is dead silent. Not sure where the Tornado name comes from, This thing is also super energy efficient. Weighs a lot which is a good sign in a PSU

Tornado == airflow. ^^ I agree that the marketing dept was smoking crack. Tornado is a misnomer to it's quietnes for sure.

I've a Seasonic Super Tornado 400W and I cannot hear it. At all. Unless I put my ear to it, I hear nothing. Very stable, excellent PSU.

Yes. Seasonics are generally fine PSUs. Sometimes better values can be found however.

In terms of quietness, yes. At the same power draw levels the Seasonic is going to be at least 10 decibels quieter than the Fortron (per the review of the Blue Storm at Silent PC Review).

If quietness is not important to you, save yourself some bucks and get the Fortron.

Me, I couldn't stand a noisy computer. Seasonic all the way for me.

Ok, I got my Seasonic s12 430 watt psu today. it's quiet as hell. but after I installed it windows wouldn't boot up. It got to the screen where it's black and says windows xp and there's that progress bar under it. It wou'dn't get past that point. I had to hit reset and then I got this screen saying windows didn't boot up normally and it gave me a bunch of options. I picked start windows normally and it happened again. Then I hit reset and picked boot up with last know working configuration and it worked. I'm afraid to reboot again though. Great now my pc is quieter but something is wrong with it. I swear I don't trust my motherboard. it's the chaintech vnf4 and I'm sure it's unrealiable. well I'm not really sure just a hunch.

I would doublecheck all the power lead connections, and make sure everything is seated correctly.

Changing out the PSU is a big job and more often than not something gets jostled loose. If after this you experience no problems and windows boots normally in a repeatable fashion, you are fine.

I think the Seasonic will save you money in the long run, if you pay your own power bill.
