Does SB Live X-Gamer not work well with Win XP?....mine has issues

I have tried many things to try and get my surround speakers to work. I have a 4.1 setup and only the front speakers work. I have the updated sb live drivers. The only way I can get the surround to turn on is to either go to the control panel sound settings and re-select the 4 speaker setup (which it is already set on) or if I go into Creative's Audio Headquarters and re-select 4 speaker setup (which it is already set to). I noticed that when I play a song in Winamp, the back speakers have a short crackle noise and then only the front speakers work. I NEED HELP....what could be the problem?

Did you go to the Creative/Sound Blaster site and look for the updated XP drivers? If you installed those drivers and they still do not work I am stumped. Also did you install XP over an existing OS like Win98 instead of doing a format C: and then starting from scratch? A friend of mine had a similar problem and he just formatted his HDD and started from scratch, while installing the updated drivers. That solved everything for him.
