Does running a RAID 0 stripe increase the probability of registry errors?

I'm probably one of the bigger proponents of home users running a RAID 0 stripe. Most other folks claim it's a waste, w/no real benefits, etc, etc.

I've noticed that after about 9-12 months, no matter how often I defrag/run a reg cleaning utility, I start getting random lockups and crashes and file corruption. Always in games...never affects surfing/emailing/stuff like that.

So, it's time for a wipe and reload and for the first time since I've become "a power user" (as compared to the "normal" PC user) I'm seriously considering kicking the stripe to the curb in favor of a single-drive setup.

I've noticed that most folks w/a single drive dont' have these "corruption" problems.

What say you, AT?

I say bogus. Raid0 won't cause any problems in itself...it just makes your system less forgiving of problems elsewhere. Get one good crash and can corrupt a stripe set...which can cause more crashes.

I don't have any problems with raid at all. I'd suggest you check the 'usual suspects': drivers and dust bunnies.

hehe and stop using reg clean utilities. If you can't hack it by hand then don't fool with it. Those things can ruin a perfectly good registry in one pass.

Thanks, Smilin. I should've worded my original post a little more clearly; I don't use a regcleaner on a regular basis. Only when probs start showing up. I run a virus scan once a day and defrag once a month, though. :)

Unless your controller is causing errors, which would not be necessarily an issue with RAID, then there's no chance of this.
