Does running a lightbulb dimmed increase or reduce the life of the bulb?

For a regular bulb, it will increase it, sometimes dramatically. I have a photocell controlled outdoor lamp and I've changed the bulb one time in the last 7 years (after a lighting strike). The bulb runs an average of 8 to 12 hours per day (depending on season). The bult starts with a flicker and then brightens up until peak darkness.

there are too many varients...but in perfect conditions i would assume it would increase life...anywho...i have replaced all three bulbs in my ceiling fan four times this year because of shitting wiring (old house)
