does reversing the ceiling fan help with keeping the house warm?

so in theory, what happens is that hot air/heat will rise toward the ceiling. As this happens, reversing the ceiling fan will push the heat up, which will bounce off the ceiling, move out, down and circulate the heat around the house better.

first of all, does anyone do this? do you find that it helps?

secondly, all of my vents are located on the ceiling. I have no vents on the ground. so in this case, will this still work?
