DOES RETAIL CPU'S COME WITH THERMAL GREASE?

I'm buiilding a pc for a friend and decided on getting a retail boxed 1.4GHZ t-bird at newegg.com and was wondering wether retail cpus come with thermal grease for the included HSF.

Generally the stock HSF comes with a thermal pad. But of course if you plan on doing even marginal overclocking, you'll scrap that POS right off 😉.

ok, now im really confused, what is thermal pad? and I read something about copper shim, what is this? This system is not going to be overclocked, so would the stock HSF and thermal pad be sufficient?

THANX in Advance

If you won't be overclocking, there is no need for extra conduction material. The thermal pad should be fine.

A thermal pad is just a small sticky square that adheres your cpu to your heatsink.

the shims just prevent you from crushing your cpu core. They're actually supposed to be kind of dangerous because they may expand from the heat and push your heatsink away. Don't quote me on that though. I read that somewhere.
