My wife had some PC issues and "solved" the problem by reinstalling office. Now she has lost all her e-mail.

It shouldn't. Did you search for PST files on her hard drive?

But if it isn't deleted, shouldn't Outlook load with the old settings?

When I re-installed MS Office 2000 along with Outlook it didn't overwrite my pst file. All of my settings and everything else were retained.

Perhaps the old profile was messed up?

At any rate, the old PST file should still be there. You can point her current profile to it in the Mail control panel applet.
