Does regular SD card readers read SDHC?

Does regular SD card readers read SDHC also?

Specifically laptop built-in SD readers.

I was actually looking at this the other day...the closest answer I could find is that most do not. There seemed to be a lot of people complaining specifically about not being able to read the card in a laptop slot.

I even read one complaint about how a SanDisk wouldn't work, and the product packaging and description said that it was compatible with all readers.

No. None of the ones I have tried will read my 8GB SDHC card. It sucks. Unless it says specifically on it, you can pretty much bet that it won't.

SDHC is not backwards compatible w/ SD you must have an SDHC compatible reader or you get nothing, SDHC, readers also happen to read SD cards, but the newer cards only work in the newer readers.

Well if I ever get a SDHC I know my San Disk 12 in 1 external Image Mate Reader / Writer
can work with that type of card.
