Does RangeMax Extend the Range of Non-RangeMax Gear?

the wireless in my house doesn't carry very well, and i'm considering a rangemax access point to replace a dying linksys wireless access point. to my knowledge none of our notebooks have a rangemax card, so my question is whether i'll see any benefit in range if i use the rangemax access point with standard notebook wireless cards...thanx.
