Does Quake 3 support 5.1 sound?

Dusted off my old Quake 3 and started playing it, but I noticed I've got no sound coming from my center speaker. All other 4 and the sub produce sound, but no center.

I've checked my audio options in control panel and it is indeed set to 5.1, and I also ran the "diagnostic noise" through Creative's control panel and it puts sounds out of all of the speakers.

Quake 3 just too old, or am I doing something wrong?

im sure that means it doesnt support true surround sound. the sound your hearing from your rear speakers is just a clone of wut's coming out of your front speakers

Q3 itself probably only sends 4-channel surround to the soundcard, that was standard before 5.1 became common.

Sounds like a plausible reason. I used 2.0's back in the day of Q3.
