PS3
WMP (probably 11) with WinXP SP2
Wireless connection

I added pictures, video, and MP3's to my WMP library and then shared all with "unknown device."

I can view JPG's and MPEG's on the PS3, but I get "Media Server Error: A DLNA protocol error (7522) has occurred" when trying to even see MP3's through the PS3.

On the PS3, I go to "Photo" to see JPG's. I go to "Video" to see videos. I go to "Music" and then pick my PC, then pick "Music", then I get the error.

I thought it might be wireless bandwidth issues, but I can view videos sent from my PC.

I can play MP3's through the WMP library on my PC.

Help please?

Edit: Windows Media Player 11

Well, a few google hits showed that some people think that there's a problem if you have a lot of MP3's, possibly as few as 10 GB. I have close to 50 GB. Still haven't found a resolution yet.

Try TVersity instead
http://tversity.com/

I do know the PS3 can be a bit finicky with some media files. I had a whole bunch of AAC files I had encoded with Nero Digital that wouldn't play on it, even though they worked with my PSP. Alternatively, you can store them on a portably USB hard drive or locally on the PS3 itself. I'd also suggest upgrading to a wired connection if you can.

I know it's been a few days since the original post, but you have tried rebooting the computer hosting the music, right? Double check that in WMP11 you are sharing the correct folder that holds your music.

EDIT: There's really no reason why this isn't working. It should work and you shouldn't have to resort to additional sosftware on your system.

He's right , i have 71gb of mp3's shared with my PS3 through WMP11.
Be sure you have those star ratings and parental ratings set to all ratings under Library/media sharing/settings

Yes, I have rebooted several times with the same result - videos and pictures are available, but MP3's are not. Really weird.

Yes, If I recall, the media sharing settings are all set to "all". I'll double-check when I get home tonight.

Is there some other setting in WMP 11 that would cause this problem? I can't even view the MP3's on the PS3. I used Windows explorer to Share the MP3 directory also, if that helps.

Are your MP3s in the same directory as the photos you are using? I've run into issues with Windows networking getting picky on what folders I allow the PS3 access to, no matter what I tell it I want.

I use WMA files for media sharing, they all work fine with the PS3, think I have around 120GBs worth atm(I know I filled a 100GB drive and added a bunch since then).

Sorry I can't shed light on why you can't do this with WMP11, but I use TVersity and it works without a hitch with about 120GB of MP3s and FLAC files.

I've had this happen myself over wireless, as soon as I moved to a wired connection this stopped altogether with MP3s. With Tversity I had this happen ALOT when it was transcoding 1080p MKV files, and so I switched to PS3 Media Server which has been quite a bit faster and considerably more stable when working with big files.

I have gone back and forth from wired to wireless a couple of times, but I have to stay wired for the larger 1080 movies, but I did try the Zune software for streaming music and it seemed to fare better over wireless listing my 130gb+ music library.

I have verified that the General media sharing settings are set to all, and the Customize media sharing settings are set to all.

Note: if you dont see Add to library, click the advanced options button.

Ok, this is bizarre. It works now. I'm playing an MP3 streamed to the PS3 right now. I swear I didn't change anything in WMP. Maybe it IS some weird wireless issue, but I can't imagine the bandwidth for an MP3 is greater than for a video. Or Is it?

Actually i do recall my mp3's not showing up right away, and i ended up turning pc and ps3 off, reset my router and booted pc, then ps3 and it was there.

Never was sure if i had to do all that, so i didnt mention it since someone mentioned rebooting ps3 and pc already.

Anyway, congrats!
Hopefully your PS3 isnt hooked up to tv via HDMI, cuz on my setup it is, and since it is i cannot set my audio reciever to play stereo "surround" / cloned stereo to my rear speakers, which i kinda liked on my old setup.

I don't believe it has anything to do with the bandwidth of the media at all, more like something to do with the size of the list it has to generate since it generates it on the fly the first time you request a folder's contents.

WMP11 never would reliably give me lists of all my mp3s at 40,000+ songs over wireless, but it would stream 720p quality video transcoded to mpeg2 which is fairly huge in size no problem. I don't know the cause, I just know what cured it for me, wired connection and using different media servers.

Yeah, your explanation makes a lot more sense than my problem being caused by lack of bandwidth. I would like to get a wired connection, but that may not be possible with my house and my (lack of) skills.
