What is "nothing"?

You need a minimum of video, memory, and often CPU.
Use the beep codes to troubleshoot based on BIOS mfg.

No CPU results in nothing....no POST.

No RAM and video will still result in a beep if you have the case speaker connected to the pin headers. Some motherboards, especially microATX/FlexATX boards, do not require a case speaker as they have the buzzer onboard.

The new Asus boards are supposed to beep or give voice messages even if it is has nothing plugged in. Mine didn't do anything without memory, so I guess there is a difference between "supposed to" and "does."
