Plextor 12X10X32 IDE....will it burn in MP3 format?

I read that the earlier ones would not.

Anybody familiar with this?

Thanks,
Jeff

<< We liked the simple interface of this utility, however wished it supported the more popular MP3 format. We were able to rip / encoded a single audio track of 37 MEG into a 3.7 MEG WMA file in just under a minute and that was impressive. But without the support for MP3 encoding ?this software may seem a little less appealing. >>

It should have no problem burning anything as a data file as long as it is on your computer. It does not have to treat it as an audio disk. MP3 files burned as data files work just fine in anything that can read CDs with MP3 files on them.

I believe this quote refers to the inability of software to support MP3 encoding. This says nothing about the drive itself. All cd burners will write MP3's as data. You would just need other software to encode the mp3's.

Just like Mje says, your ability to burn any type of data doesn't have anything to do with the drive itself. Whatever drive you get, may I suggest Nero 5.5.x.x as your software of choice? You won't be sorry if you do....

Instead of the Plextor, pick yourself up a nice cheap Lite-On. They are nice drives, and are much cheaper than Plextors (in general). Good luck-
