does playing basketball make you taller?

Was just discussing this with a friend while watching the laker game. He said tall people gravitate towards basketball, I think the jumping and stretching while young makes them taller. My analogy was that doing repetitive things in certain sports affects your height like gymnastics would seem to make you shorter and basketball is like the opposite

No. Then all baseball players would have long arms with short legs.

P.S. My sport is masturbation and my penis isnt any bigger.

Gymnasts tend to be smaller because being small and compact is an advantage when trying to flip around like a monkey on crack. Basketball players are tall because being taller is generally more advantageous to their sport.

Plus, when they rob someplace with a tall wal, it's easier to get over than if they were short.

Your friend is wrong and you are right. Not only does playing basketball make you taller. In fact you can WILL yourself to be taller. People who are short and are angry that they can't be taller just didn't have the will power growing up to REALLY want to be taller so they have nobody to blame but their own weak minds.

Actually, being a gymnast is one of the few sports where the sport does tend to dictate the body shape to a large degree.

Most gymnasts train heavily at a young age, and for the females this tends to throw the body into an almost perpetual state of shock which can delay the onset of puberty by many years (in some cases almost as long as the female is in training for the sport) and the repeated impacts from gymnastic exercises tend to stunt growth somewhat as well.

Yes, many are petite to begin with, but the training regimine re-enforces that trait and actually increases the tendency.

during an age that your were still growing? Yes I know certain builds do tend to gravitate to certain sports but I do think there are other environmental factors that would affect growth or lack thereof.

No, your friend is right and you are wrong. Well technically you're both probably right, but the majority of the height attributed to basketball players is not from the physical activity itself.

I think if you're causing physical harm to your unit it can be considered "wrong"

yes obviously playing bball isn't going to make you a foot taller than what genetics dictated but it's probable that it does increase height (how much I don't know). I read a Jordan biography where everyone in his family was under 6ft and no one thought he'd be tall but he said he'd play basketball all the time and try to hang from monkey bars and things all the time (lol basically willing it, if there was a player who could do it was him).

But what if you are into that sort of thing?

Doing sports can increase your height. The increase is something like 1 or 2 inches over the height you would normally have. Nothing spectacular. Anyway, this works mostly at young age (at 20 years of age the potential of growth is close to 0).
Sports that help? Swimming, volleyball, handball, basketball. And of course almost any other sport out there
