Does PC133 run at PC100

I have a HP Pavilion 6638 that uses PC66 RAM or PC100. It's currently running at 100. I want to know whether a PC133 RAM would work on my system - even if it can run at a max of 100Mhz.

Yes, SDRAM doesn't mind being clocked slower than its maximum rating (which is what PCxxx tells you).

Old chipsets do have their limits on SDRAM chip size (in MBits), so make sure you know that before purchasing the DIMM.

As Peter says ----- the only thing you`ll have to watch out for is CHIP DENSITY - a lot of the new 256Mb DIMMS (irrespective of speed) are SINGLE SIDED - IE have a higher chip density and a lot of older boards don`t like this, my server`s BX board for a start sees them as 128s , a lot of ZX based boards won`t see them, even i815 boards can have problems (though not my Asus) - to be on the safe side with an older machine, if buying 256s make sure that it has chips on both sides of the DIMM as these work in newer machines too..
