I have my first P4 (2533) system up and running. I'm surprised that it runs as hot as or hotter than my Athlon (2400+). I have MBM installed on both machines. On the Athlon, when turned on from a cold start (sitting overnight), the Athlon CPU temp starts out at room temp (23C here) and then rises to 40C over a few minutes. The P4, when turned on from a cold start, starts out at 40C and rises up to 50C. Why does the P4 seem to heat up so much quicker than the Athlon? Perhaps the Athlon temp is coming from a sensor below the CPU while the P4 sensor is located inside the CPU? Even so, I would expect the CPU to heat up slower.
FWIW: The Athlon has an aftermarket HS, forgot the name, with a Panasonic L1A fan, bolted to the mb (Asus A7v266c) and uses Artic Silver.
The P4 has retail stock HSF, attached with the stock black thermal pad (Abit IT7 Max2 Ver2). Might replace this with a Zalman 7000.
Not having any particular problems. Just curious.
