Does overburning a CD generally work?

I tried to burn a music CD, but Nero told me it was too big for the disc. However, it also offered to try overburning the CD for me, which it's doing now.

Does overburning generally work, or will I end up with a coaster?

works fine for me. but on the media i use, if i try to go anything above 81m 48s, the cd will start skipping in my decks/cd player.

It depends on the brand of disk and your CD drive. I can typically overburn to 84 minutes

Depends on the burner, the software and the discs. You can usually get an extra minute or two onto mosts discs. After that you'll either get a coaster or the last song will get cut off.

I've overburned to 1500 megs, but it's not for the faint of heart, and only because I wrote custom firmware for my drive did I manage to get it to work. It actually dual-layers the CD (again, my custom firmware, and no you can't have it!).

There is an option in Nero to overburn one, but I've never tried it...
