Ish? If you're experiencing weirdness, one thing you can try is to create a new user account and test things out there. A lot of things are partition between users such that simply changing accounts will clear up issues. It's a good first step to diagnosing software/firmware/hardware problems.

Windows benefiting from reinstalls is due to the user installing garbage on their system and not cleaning things out, the same can happen to a Unix (Mac OS X) and Unix like OS.
