does old notebook support sata hdd?

such as sony pcg-gr7/k, the internal hdd is ultra ata 100 30GB. does it also work for external sata hdd (usb2.0)??? 😕

 
the interface to the computer is then not via SATA but via USB, as long as the computer has USB, it should work
