Discussion Does old computer junk have any value at all?

I'm not talking about first Tandys or anything like that.

I mean stuff like 56K modem cards, 14.4 notebook modem cards, 1M NIC cards and the like. I hate to just offload stuff into the dumpster.

You'll find a good bit of old junk on ebay. There is apparently a small number of folks who enjoy collecting or tinkering with antique computers.

You won't get much money though. 56K modems and old nic cards might go for a few dollars. Some video card that might go for a little bit more, but nothing to get excited about.

Sometimes I extract discrete components off of old PCBs, though I usually do it the brute force method which is go outside (because it's going to stink), pick which side has the component(s) I want, heat the other side with a blow torch, then smack the pcb against the side of a cardboard box to knock the components into the box while the solder is molten.
