My office 2000 encounters and error half way through installation. What could be the problem?

A bad disk? Office 2k is working fine for me on XP right now. I can't think of a reason why other than a bad cd that it wouldn't work.

Works fine for me too. Could be a bad disk. Try turning off antivirus software too

Seems like a bad cd, try and copy the install files/folders onto your harddisk if you can first, and try installing directly from there.

Note that this only happened to me on WinXP, it worked fine on 2K, and 98SE. Not a preview copy.

if you get an error code, you can usually find it in the microsoft database. i couldn't install office2000 because i already had lotus notes installed.

I had the same problem after switching over to WinXP from Win2K. My personal copy (legal) of Office2000 encountered an error reading a file halfway through installation. I tried all the MS fixes, to no avail. I cleaned and polished the disk. Luckily, my employer's site license allows me to install the MS products we use at home. The install disks given me by our IT folks did the trick. I am assuming the disk was bad since my old Creative 52x CD-ROM tended to FuX0r disks. Hell, it makes a great paperweight now...
