Does Obama really have any intentions of leaving Iraq?

Obama is the most hawkish, pro-war, pro-foreign aid, pro-interventionist f***head President since FDR. Seriously. He makes Bush look like a dove.

Anyway, suppose we stay there for another 20 years? Why does he think it makes a world of difference to occupy slightly less than completely?

Or is he just doing this for so he can take credit among the ignorant?

It pisses me off every single time he does stuff like this. He lies through his teeth and prays on peoples' ignorance like no one else, except maybe the Clintons.

Eh, I think you just passed my useless threshold. It's too bad putting you on ignore won't make threads you start disappear.

We will always have troops in Iraq... quite a few, actually.

See also: South Korea, Germany, etc...

Political Science? Study harder.

Obama is just like any other politician, say what you need to get to office, then deal with the situation at hand. He realizes that it would be unwise to pull out of the middle east currently or that would make things worse very fast.

Sounds like Anarchist420 goes to Liberty College or some other similar institution of lower learning.

Burt getting back to the thread question of will Obama try to extend the American stay in Iraq, that may be determined by future events.

As it is Obama opposed the US entering Iraq in the first place, campaigned on the 2008 platform that he wanted our troops out of Iraq, but the basic withdrawal schedule was something Maliki demanded and got from GWB before Obama was elected. So I think its a slam dunk Obama wants us out on schedule even if 50,000
non combat troops will be left behind.

Sadly, Iraqi political stability is miles wide and less than a half an inch deep, Iraq still can't agree on whom their new prime minister will be, and if civil war erupts, its going to spread outside the borders of Iraq also.

But I think the only way Obama would possibly to delay the big troop pull out scheduled for the end of this month, could only happen following a formal request
from Iraq itself. And even then Obama may so no US troops but might help something like the Arab League or some similar entity to pick up the slack.

And to answer the thread title, yes he does intend for the US to leave, but needs to wait until country can deal with their internal problems. Who knows how long that will be, but probably not in his presidency even if he gets a 2nd term

The thing is, is that it's not our responsibility for them to be stable.

And Obama did not sincerely oppose the Iraq War except 16% of the time. When he campaigned against it, he was hoping people wouldn't know that he had an 84% pro-Iraq War voting record.

He also didn't have to follow the demands that Maliki laid out. He's quick to abuse his role as commander in chief at the wrong times. Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich would've ordered all American troops out of the middle east the day he entered office.

Finally, he doesn't need to leave any troops in the region, be they combat, or non-combat.

Anarchist420, its all well and fine to have an opinion, but usually you have to support opinions with facts.

This wiki link basically does not support your opinion.

pay particular attention to footnotes 17, 18, and 19.

"What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

I wish we could recall all of our troops back home from there, but the reality is that if we leave the area unstable, all that will happen is the Taliban or another similar group will seize control because the current gov is too weak to stand up to them. If they control the region I believe there will be other large scale terrorist attacks here and in many other locations across the world.

Obama's #1 priority is getting our troops home, he is focused like a laser on getting them home and he nor his wife will rest, go on 13 vacations, play 36 rounds of golf until the troops are all home safely.

And he's not raising taxes, he's bring down health care costs, creating jobs and he's not an ideologue and he loves this country, just like the other Socialists. And he's not scared of his wife or any other man, despite what the right wingers say.
