Gang, does GeForce EXPERIENCE from NVIDIA really need to be running all the darned time? I'm looking at my parent's computer. They are not gamers. They have a decent video card to that HD video plays without stuttering. But WTF is this program and why does it run at startup?

Googling gives me a lot to read, but none of it on if I can just disable it and HOW to disable it.

This is a PC running Windows 8.1 64bit.

Would love some advice.

This thing is different than NVIDIA Control Panel, correct?

You definitely don't need it. When I install things, I always select the "custom" or "advanced" install that lets me pick and choose components, so I never even installed the GFE in the first place.

You should probably just uninstall it.

(I also avoid the AMD Gamer Evolved thing, which is similar.)

Its used for some of the more advanced functions like shadowplay(game recording) and you can use with with a shield device to stream as well.

Most common of it is for Driver Updates and Preformace profiles for games.

But as they are not gamers, you can just uninstall it from the control panel and as code65546 mentioned when install drivers, do a custom and don't select the GFE

I did install custom but somehow overlooked that. I guess I was tired and thought it was a control panel. My bad.

Thanks for the help. I am uninstalling NOW!

You can also just disable it at startup (in MSCONFIG, ) that way you can open it to check for new drivers, but it's not running normally.

Is there any way to change where it downloads the massive driver updates from the system drive? They issue updates pretty frequently and I just disabled notifications because I want to minimize writes to the SSD. So since I don't use Shadowplay and record games, I can uninstall this? That Raptr Gaming Evolved tripe is amazingly craptastical. When it was first bundled you could deselect it on the installer but now it gets installed whether you want it or not. I hate AMD's drivers these days.

Yes, it is. That having been said, I didn't have that problem with the latest beta driver (14.2) or the latest WHQL driver. I've always been able to uncheck it. Could it be because you had already installed it on your system, so it was just force-updating that component instead of installing it fresh?
