Oreck.com

Get your choice of a free $100 cord-free speed iron or $125 sports binoculars for taking a risk-free 30-day in-home trial of the Oreck XL vacuum. You know, the one with the annoying radio commercials. The return of the vacuum is free too.

What is Oreck's return policy?

At Oreck.com it's very easy and convenient to return merchandise. There's no cost to the customer; Oreck picks up the tab for return shipping. If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your Oreck product, simply return it within 30 days for a credit or refund.

To return products:

1) Repackage products in Oreck box (include the "Return Instructions" sheet in the box).

2) Peel back the yellow tab on the shipping label to expose the prepaid UPS return label.

3) Leave box with product for return at any UPS pick up location or drop off station.

Please allow 4 weeks from receipt of merchandise for credit to be issued

I thought about doing it a long time ago, but I gave up because it might lead to a lot of hassle.

The Oreck vacuums are terrific; you could do a lot worse. Even if they "hassle you" a bit, get the system and the free gift.

Looks like you can also pick a cordless car vac instead of the iron/binoculars.

$400 for a vacuum is pretty expensive, but I have always wanted to try one of these "suckers". If anyone knows how well it works on bare floors I'd be interested to hear feedback, my house is mostly ceramic tile so I need one with good bare floor abilities.

Not to crap, just to inform -- they've had this deal forever. Sometimes they change what the freebie is, but they always have one.

I thought about buying an Oreck about six months ago. I have friends a work who say "best vacuum cleaner in the world" about it. But I borrowed one from one of my buddies who swears by his and I wasn't too impressed. Yeah, it did the job pretty well, but it was without a doubt the loudest vacuum I've ever tried. We're talking jet engine here. Check out the Consumer Reports vacuum tests - Oreck isn't even close to the top of the pack. The XL2600 is middle of the pack on cleaning carpets and is as expensive as the best vacuums they tested. The XL21-600 does pretty well on cleaning carpets (but not the best) but it is easily twice as much money. The value just isn't there. There are even other lightweight vacs on the market that do a better job for a lot less money than the Orecks.

Overall, they aren't BAD vacuum cleaners by any means, they just aren't the best and they cost a hella lot more. But they are a kind of status symbol, if you care about that kind of thing in your vacuum cleaner. *shrug* Some people do.

Oreck's are alright. Maybe better than average ... but certainly overpriced relative to it's performance. The $1000 Oreck's work well but at that price point you can do better with a Miele, E/I/O, Samsung et al. Heck, i'd rather have a Filter Queen for that money compared to an Oreck.

I'd go for a Kenmore Progressive series or a Samsung QuietJet or a Miele Solaris series vacuum anytime compared to the Oreck. A good friend of mine co-owns a vacuum/sewing and service shop for all models. He's the one that told me to my face that my Fantom was a piece of crap quality-wise (and he was right although it vacuumed fairly well) although we did get a screaming deal for it (knew another friend).

Sorry, I don't mean to crap on your thread.

Geez, I can't believe I'm even still posting in this thread. OK, look, the original intent is the "Hot Deal" aspect of this offer. In other words, get the free iron or sports binoculars for the "free trial." That is it. Whoever thinks the Oreck is or isn't a good vacuum is irrelevant. Get the free stuff; that's the hot deal. And don't tell my wife I am posting in this thread either. She'll make me use that darned Oreck more!

We've been using a relatively high-end Oreck ($500 from our local Oreck "outlet") for the last 3 or 4 years and have loved it. Especially nice if you have to lug it upstairs since it's so light. Until, that is, the bag gets mostly full---that must double the weight of the thing. We paid a litte more to get an extra-extra-long power cord---well worth it. Just last week, I got a mailing from Oreck at my office pitching their "hotel model" vacuum to "business owners" for only $189. Didn't study it too closely, but it probably has the less-fancy handgrip and a shorter power cord. As you might expect, this one also didn't include the gimmicky come-ons like the free iron or canister vac. At $189, I'm tempted to get another for our basement...

What happen's when I drop it off at the UPS pickup outside my local target b&m and someone walks off with it, does that still count as a return?:D

Believe it, you just did. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Oreck vacuums are still overpriced. But I guess i'm not allowed to comment about that just in case someone actually gets suckered into keeping an Oreck compared to the many other cheaper-and-better alternatives. Which, by the way, if it actually happens certainly invalidates this "hot deal" - no disrespect to the original poster.

Fine, hot deal if you keep the freebie and return the vac. Not a hot deal if you don't. Same deal with rebates. Send it in - hot deal. Forget - not that hot. Happy?

Not necessarily but it is more fair to the post. You can always argue the finer aspects of vacuum cleaners in the OT thread. Most likely you will find a lot of "takers" there also. ;) Thanks for the response though.

I think it works great on bare floors. My parents have used one on their hardwood floors for many years, without a single scratch.

When the got theirs though, it came with a free Oreck portable vac w/ extentions and adapters.....that alone was worth the purchase. (You know the one where they show it sucking a bowling ball over the guys head)
