Does NJ suck? How is Rutgers Grad School of Business?

Unfortunately, all of the above comments about NJ are dead wrong. NJ is an awesome state, don't listen to those who base their opinions on the one or two or four towns or cities they've been in. Parts of Northern NJ tend to be much more yuppy and affluent than Southern NJ. Half of Bergen county is like this, as is half of Essex and Morristown counties. Then of course the whole entire Princeton area tends to be yuppy and affluent as well. We've got amazing neighborhoods and towns with fantastic schools. NJ has the most millionaires of any state, and many many wealthy individuals, and this is definitely reflected in hundreds of communities in NJ. There are a ton of commuters to NYC from New Jersey (including Wall Streeters, that make their living in NJ).

The ONLY bad parts of NJ are Newark, Camden, and Hudson County(where factories are). NJ is also rural in some parts, but those "rural" areas more often than not contain plenty of millionaire dollar homes. I can see how one might think NJ sucks if they only visited Newark, Camden, Hudson Cty etc, but overall, NJ is truly a fantastic state with plenty to boast about. Those who dis it all the time are those who usually know nothing about the state and have very limited exposure.

So, I think NJ is great, but I think Rutgers' MBA program probably isn't too top notch. Why don't you look at schools like NYU - Stern, U of Mich, etc.

Well tell me in brief a little about NJ and the places that are nice.

Up here in Northern NJ, Bergen/Passaic/Morris/Essex counties are some of the nicest places you can live in. Bergen is consistently ranked in the Top 10 wealthiest counties in the US, the schools all around this area are excellent, and the towns are all ideally located in terms of being close to EVERYTHING. It is possible to live in a small town that qualifies as a "suburb" while being five minutes away from everything - malls, theaters, pro sports teams and more restaurants then you know what to do with - not to mention being close (15 minutes) to New York City and everything it has to offer.

That's just a fraction of what this area has to offer ...

and one more that I can't decide on right now.

Edit: This is for the MBA programs... I'm a U of M alum, so hopefully I have some leverage there, tho my GPA is only 3.1

Nice. I have to do well on my GMAT to stand a chance. My GPA is 3.43 overall and 3.72 Major.

I'm taking it on Dec 4th. I've been studying for the past 2 weeks. I really really need to screw on the pressure this thanksgiving though...no fun for me..just GMAT, I will worship and own it come Dec 4th. I have to since I only have 2 years of work exp and am applying to top 30 schools. Then December is all about application essays, since I'm trying to hit the January deadlines of most schools.

Your GPA is pretty good and should not be a problem.
