Does nForce3 have native SATA support? Nevermind, gonna get a VIA K8T800 / VIA VT8237 board.

I'm most likely gonna take the plunge and buy an Athlon64 platform next week. Does NE1 know if the nForce3 platform has native SATA or not? Or is it just via an add-on chip that runs through the PCI bus?

No no no... You are dropping down around $500 for the 64 and you are currently running 3ghz?

I am and will be a bigger fan of the Athlon 64 in time, but your system looks plenty fast...

:D

Edit: I believe it's and add-on through the PCI bus.

Dude, I upgrade just for the fun of it :D

Hell, I may end up getting an el cheapo VIA based mobo. I think they have SATA native through the southbridge. Since there is no northbridge to speak of on any of these A64 boards, there really isn't a reason to chose one chipset over the other unless one is a lot cheaper...at least IMHO.

The VIA one should support serial ATA natively + raid 0 and raid 1 i think

re: nf3

http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_8138.html

from page2 of the pdf,

*Triple Fast Ultra ATA-133 Disk Drive
Controllers
-Each interface supports two devices, for
a total of six devices
-Third IDE interface can support two
IDE-to-SATA bridge master/slave
configuration devices to support up to
two SATA ports
-Third IDE channel additionally supports
an over-clocked mode to achieve
UDMA-150 to match the 150MB/sec. of
the SATA link interface

I think I'll stick with the VIA board. The difference between A64 boards is negligible due to the integrated memory controller:
