I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb which is perfectly fine by any standards. But all these new cards have come out.

I am planning on buying Doom 3 and am a hardcore gamer

Should I wait for another generation of cards to come out or buy one of these new ones?

Well, are you happy with your current performance?? Thats the real question. I just ordered a 6800GT to replace my 9700 pro, so upgrading now would not be a waste of money for you, but a 9800 pro is no acient card either.

That all depends on the resolutions and LOD that you want to run at.

I'd say if you're happy with what you got right now, wait for next gen cards. Your hardware is plenty fast anyway. Im still on an old GeForce 3 man :p

Yea a R9800Pro is plenty good, im actually dissapointed i bought the 9800Pro since now you can get one for like $200, it wasn't worth the money when i got it IMO, im sure the higher end cards now are just the same. Sure the 6800GT is fast, but i don't think its worth it.
