does my mobo not support ssd

So I have a prebuilt lenova desktop from about 4 years ago. Its running an Intel e5400 with 2g ram. Originally I was using XP but the ssd didn't show up when I opened up my computer. After doing a little research it seems like that could be a common problem. I then through device manager disk drives was able to see the Samsung 830. But whatever I tried to do I couldn't get the computer to recognize it for use. So I decided to upgrade to windows 7 as I thought it should recognize it automatically. Well after the upgrade im still running into the same problem. Can't see it when I open my computer but can see it when I go through device manager. So what do I need to do to get this working?
