My Friend went to Circuit city, to get a new speaker system.

After they installed, it the whole electrical system shorted out. And the car would not turn off. He took the key out and it was still on. (The Engine)

He went to the dealer and when they took a look at it, they said that it was because of Faulty installation. They also said that they disabled his airbags, and they never re enabled them. So if he would of gotten in an accident they would not of gone off. The Dealer Fixed the wiring so that the car would function correctly.

**They told him to go to Circuit city and get the rest of the wiring they put in uninstalled**. So, now that the car was working so that he can drive it. He did not want to bother with the headache with Circuit city because he thought that everything was working properly and did not want them to screw it up again. Yesterday night his car started smoking, and his trunk caught on fire, his back Leather Chairs are all burnt where circuit city worked. He also inhaled alot of smoke, trying to put the fire out.

Does he have a case?

BTW: its an 2006 VW Jetta GLI

*Edit: I talked to him again the Dealer told him to go tell CC what had happened.
*Edit2: It was a Woofer and an Amp that he installed not a speaker system.

Thanks

Sounds like he does... but he REALLY should have gone back to CC. Hopefully the dealership has good records of what happened and made note of things like the car not turning off.

Much depends on if the dealer pladced the comments in writing and the amont of time between the installation and the fire.

Because he did not go back to the store right away next day, then it does weaken his claim.

Is your friend currently residing in America and not a member of the US Military attempting to file vs. the government?

If your answer to the above is yes, then your friend has a legal case in the US. I didn't even read the OP, we're simply the poster country for retarded legal system/lawsuits.

@legoman66: well,I think he was scared to go back, they disabled his airbags, and they screwed up his car. He did not want to go back for them to screw it up another way and affect his safety.

Airbags disabled, engine running on its own... but you don't think you should take every step to make sure everything's okay now? Poor choice on his part.

He's got a case, but he's also a bit of an asshat for not bothering to make sure everything was done correctly.

I'm trying to figure out why someone would pay for something (car stereos and installations aren't cheap), it doesn't work, and then he/she completely ignores it. Maybe it's just me, but I don't have money to throw away like that.

He trusted the dealer. They said they fixed the problems. My friend does not know much about cars.

The dealer told him to go back to circuit city and the dealer was the last mechanic to look at the car. He didn't go back to circuit city. The whole thing is going to be a little sketchy in a court. He continued to drive it knowing there was faulty wiring in the car that should be removed. He'd almost have been better not going to the dealer in the first place.

I bet he knows enough to know that a car on fire is a car in trouble!

they fixed the problems associated w/ the car not shutting off and the airbags disabled. they told him to go back to circuit city because they don't know what else CC could have done.
