I need to know if my system will support DDR2 memory.

I have the following chipset in my laptop:

http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/915gm/index.htm

As reported by everest: Mobile Intel Alviso-G i915GM

I have a Compaq Presario V2325AP.

Everest aslo reports:
Supported Memory Types: DDR-333 SDRAM, DDR2-400 SDRAM, DDR2-533 SDRAM

The reason why I am asking this is because my system came with 256mb DDR 333 not DDR2 and I want to upgrade to 2gb DDR2 533 (2 x 1gb) but I want to be certain that it will work.

Thankyou.

Open up your computer. There should be two different kinds of DDR slots if it supports both DDR and DDR2.

Hmm, ok I'll give it shot and I'll report back. However, isn't it that DDR and DDR2 memory have the same amount of pins and therefore they can both connect into the same slot?

A laptop is not going to have both slots. It will have one or the other and they are not compatible with eachother. Also if you didn't know, desktop RAM will not work, you want a SODIMM.

The PDF manual gives part number "367775-001" for their official 1GB stick. Researching that shows that what you need is a DDR333 PC2700 200-pin SODIMM.

I read through the thread and although it is not clearly stated

NO, your computer does not support DDR2 according to the current thread

You should buy DDR 333 also known as DDR PC2700 for a SODIMM slot

I don't understand though.

Why would Everest, one of the greatest tools for finding out system information, report that my laptop supports DDR-333. DDR2-400 and DDR2-533

As noted, this laptop has two memory slots and is designed for PC2700 (DDR333) SODIMM memory.

Zolty is correct. After looking over the HP site, you definitely need DDR 333 also known as DDR PC2700 for a SODIMM slot. As to why Everest is giving incorrect information, I reccomend you ask them.

Buy some DDR 333 and be happy. :)

Well OK. Not DDR400? Just 333?

If I can't get DDR333 that's going to be a pain because it's going to cost about AU$90 more than DDR2.

Your system MAY run DDR 400 at 333 speeds. However, in your original post you said "I want to be certain that it will work. " So, bite the bullet and get DDR333 or take a chance. It's your call.
