Does my cable connection suck?

I have RoadRunner. Just got it installed today. I got a Toshiba modem, hooked up to a Realtek nic.

I get constant 40Kb/s but nothing higher. I go to DSLReports and I get a maximum of 498/2**.

Is that really slow? My friends are all getting 1298/395. I feel so left out! Mine sucks sh*t. Is there anyway I can get a faster connection?

I have a Toshiba....I get great BW from mine.....could be your node is full.....RR is known to overload them......Run all the patches and tweaks from DSL reports and then try again, make sure there is no new drivers for your NIC also....try calling RR support and see if they can help....but only as a last resort..............RealTek does not make the best NIC......might want to splurge $30 and get a 3Com 10/100

Probably just needs some tweaking to speed things up. I had the same problem when I got my cable installed (was getting about 500ish kbps d/l), did some tweaking and now get about 1500/350.

Dig around for registry tweaks online...I found one that was pretty much drag-and-drop that fixed everything in one go. Of course, now I can't remember where I found it Just make sure you back up your registry before you start messing with it. Good luck.

Complain to TWC that your Toshiba modem sucks, and they'll come out and put in the old motorolla's, the work the best

It is perfect for cable modems though. I have one in all my computers and I have hit over 600K on a download. My speedtest I do regularly go over 2 meg/sec and I never have a driver issue. Unless you are on a system critical network I always recommend the RealTek NICs.
