does MSI make good combo drives?

Looking to get this one as a companion to my Pioneer 108. It has a 5-star rating...anyone know if MSI is any good? Or maybe another combo drive? Something quiet and reliable would be ideal.

Not sure about the quality of MSI drives, but if it's similar to their video cards and motherboards, I'd probably get it.

I really like my X48 - pretty quiet, short chassis, plenty fast enough. But if you get that or an X52, then you will want to superglue the transparent pushbutton into the bezel. As it comes, it is just a friction-fit - will eventually come loose and drop inside the bezel.

If youre not sure just go with a brand name for a few dollars more, youre taking a 50/50 chance on this drive

yah but I had a Lite-on 52x CD-RW/16x DVD-ROM combo, and it was loud and it died on me after like 6 months. I don't want to do Lite-on, but I want the 52x CD-RW and 16x DVD-ROM speeds.

Fixed that quote for ya'

😀

I've used the MSI drive before when it was about $8 cheaper than the Lite-On drive and haven't had any problems, but I certainly wouldn't pay more for the MSI drive. The Lite-On is $2.50 cheaper.

I've gotten many Lite-On drives and never had a problem. Just because you got one bad drive doesn't mean you should pay more for an inferior drive. If you really don't want Lite-On, get the $35.99 Samsung or the $38.99 Sony one.
