Does MS Word take a lot of resources away from RC5?

I have been crunching away for the past two days, and I have been averaging about 3.3 while surfing, and about 3.5 when doing nothing. However, when I went to type a paper for infotech, my average Mkeys/second went all the way down to about 2! Has word been known to take up a lot of resources?

Maybe you could just type it into notepad and then once it's done just quickly load up MS Word and copy/paste your doc in there & fix it up 😉

The hogs are the helper apps that are installed when MS Office is. If you hit CTL+ALT+DEL you should see OSA & Find Fast. To get rid of them, hit START, PROGRAMS, START UP, and delete both of them out of there. Restart your computer, and you should be crunching like never before. 😀

There's another prob with Word I have witnessed : as one machine was giving unexpected low output, I went down to find out it had a document open in word, and the spell checker had bee running in loops on it for the whole day.
I dont know how it can be, as it is not usual behaviour. But you can see at the bottom of the winword window if the checker is active.

Actually, you'd be surprised how much CPU time is used just typing in Word... It does so much "background" checking, like the spell checker and grammer checker, that it really sucks down CPU usage to keep up.
