does memory placement matter?

using 2x512, does it matter if i put the sticks in slot 1 and 2 or should it be 1 and 3? this is for A64 3200+ in a n Asus K8N-E. thanks

It can only be in certain slots for it to run at 200MHz. Look at page 2-12 in the manual and it will show you which slots you can use to have two dimms running at 200MHz. For example using slots 2&3 will result in the memory running at 50% speed.

Also some boards and chips are very picky about brand/type of memory and the slot placement. It was like that with my Asus KV8SE board and A64 3200+.

1&2 or 1&3 both run at 200mhz 2&3 doesnt work. It might be just my board though
