Does Maxtor not give any warranty on RMA'ed drives?

Just RMA'ed a Maxtor 120gb 5400RPM that had warranty till 2/14/05 and got one back that doesnt show it has warranty. It doesnt show its out of warranty either. Does Maxtor have to get my drive back(the replacement) before they give the refurb'ed drive any warranty?

They havent received the replacement(dead) hard drive yet but its on its way.

The drive type,TLA # and exp date is blank on their site when I type in the serial #..

well then I should have almost 4 months left? Any ideas why this one aint showing up? BTW I bought it used and the dude said he bought it a couple years ago so this drive must have been made back before the 1 year warranty started.

Maxtor won't know whether the remaining warranty or 1 year is longer until they get the drive and test it to make sure it is dead. Eventually the warranty expiration should show up.

When you RMA, they normally set the remaining warranty period to 30 days (if you do an advance RMA). When you return the drive, your remaining warranty goes back up to what it should be. You don't get a "new" warranty for an RMA'ed drive, of course, only the remainder of your original warranty period.

When I RMA'd a Maxtor about a year ago they told me the new drive's warranty was only the remaining amount on the first drive; in my case that was only 2 months.

Needless to say I now own some Seagate drives... I RMA'd a couple too many Maxtors in the last 4 years.
