Does Mass Effect 2 support GPU Physx?

I just installed the game last night and it showed a constant "Physx > CPU" indicator on the left upper corner of the screen. Is there a way to enable GPU accelerated Physx for Mass Effect 2? Or this game does not use GPU accelerated Phsyx?

• I am using 195.62 WHQL drivers.
• Physx version 9.09.0814 (Physx is enabled in my Nvidia Control Panel)
• No Physx option in game settings.


To turn that "Physx > CPU" indicator off: Nvidia Control Panel > 3D Settings > Show Physx Visual Indicator
 
It's a fairly safe bet that it doesn't support GPU PhysX. ME1 didn't, and NV would have had an advertising push about it if it used the GPU.

It's based on the Unreal Engine 3 which uses PhysX, but most games using that engine don't have GPU PhysX. It's also a cross platform game.
There are only about a dozen games which do use PhysX GPU.

This is all correct. Further more, to able to figure it out in future situations, if the game uses hardware accelerated physx there will be an option to disable/enable it in the game.

the dozen or so estimate might be a reference to games that actually have added visual effects due to Physx support

Borderlands is a game in your provided list, but there doesn't seem to be any visual difference between Physx being on or off.

To clarify your edit, that list is marketing spin. Most of the games fall into two categories:

a) only use accelerated PhysX if you have an actual PhysX card (i.e. before nvidia bought them) - e.g GRAW
b) uses the CPU for PhysX effects with little noticeable difference - e.g. the Mass Effect games

Hardware PhysX would be useless for Mass Effect 1-2. There are no over-the-top ragdoll deaths, melee combat is almost non-existent, and the environments don't have much that would benefit.

I suppose you could slightly fancier water flowing, and add more particles from incendiary ammo deaths. Woohoo?

Or give Miranda and Samara sheer clingy cloth uniforms and simulate the bounce.

2. In order for the game to take advantage of GPU accelerated PhysX it needs to be coded for by the developer from the beginning. If this is not the case ALL Physics (PhysX) effects will take place on the CPU. This is the case for the majority (probably 90%+) of the titles out there.

3. Of the 'PhysX' titles listed on Nvidia's website only literally a handful take advantage of GPU acceleration.

Huh???

No one said anything to refute any of this. People just said that Physx was dead before it ever popped out of Nvidia's vagina.

PhysX didn't pop out of Nvidia's vagina, it popped into existence all on its own, then was purchased by a company who wanted to make hardware acceleration for physics and decided to buy an existing physics engine in order to simplify the whole process.
Then NV purchased said company and made it accelerated in their own hardware.

People said it was dead because it was. The only reason it's still going is because NV put it on a life support machine to keep it going.
