does malware spread over the network?

one of my pcs in my small network is infected (adaware) and i am paranoid that the other machines will be attacted as well. are the precautions the same as you would with protecting your pc on the internet? eg. firewall, antivirus, etc.

I've never seen any hop across the network. My shop always has 12+ pc's connected w/ at least half of them w/ malware issues.

Some (but not all) trojans do attempt to infect other machines on the LAN. No idea about adaware.

Yes. Your firewall should stop LAN intrusion attempts as well as web.

Malware doesn't typically act like that. Unless of course you get a worm which then can isntall programs.
