Does life exist outside earth?

When you look at the simply astounding figures regarding the enormous number of stars, and planets among those stars, it seems statistically certain there are conditions suitable for life elsewhere in the universe. Now, wheather we will see these creatures or are already visited by them is left to debate. However, I think only a fool would argue no such life could exist elsewhere beyond our planet.

If we were to meet extraterrestrials my fears are that one, we would be invaded or two, they would unwittingly introduce some virus upon us and wipe our species because we would have no defense against it. Irony considering what European diseases did to Indian populations of the "New Worlds."

I don't see how life could not exist on other planets. Billions of stars systems, billions of stars, which act as suns on hundreds of trillions of planets..at least a few of those planets must be close enough to the sun to develop life. To think we are the only ones in this universe is very naive.

Not only is it foolish and naive to think only planet earth harbors life... it's arrogant. I'm pretty sure most of the people who'd say no it doesn't are religious fanatics.

:music: Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
In all of the directions it can whiz;
As fast as it can go, that's the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth;
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
'Cause there's ah heck all down here on Earth! :music:

Wasn't aware Hubble could do resolutions that detailed from a few billion miles away...

Last I read, the current volume estimation of the universe showed that there were probably around 7x10^22 stars, so I'd say yes. "Life" is such a broad term though, and most people think "life" constitutes sentience like our own.
