I am planning to goto HK for vacation. I must say that place has many cheap electronic products and one thing that I am interested in is the samsung lcd 151s

I called samsung USA and they said that if I buy the lcd monitor in hk, I will have to get it service in hk if anything bad happens.

Anyways, I have never owned a lcd monitor before, and thus I want to know that chance of it to have a problem ( I will be staying in hk for 3 weeks, so I can test it throughly to check for dead pixels) after a while.

i don't know if LCD monitors are any more or less reliable than any other electronic product.

i picked up an envision 17" LCD from CompUSA about a month ago and it works great for me. other than the dark gamma correction problem in games, images are crisp, refresh rates are great (have no problem playing jedi outcast at 1280 x 1024 w/ my GF3).

as for reliability...the first one i picked up had two dead pixels. the second one had green crap all over the screen. i refused to walk out of the store before they tested the 3rd one for me...and sure enough, it didn't work either. 4th one's worked like a charm tho'. ;)

You sure you want to buy an LCD? If the rig you're buying it for is for gaming, watching movies and other multimedia, I don't recomend it. LCDs are known to have poorer response times and less luminance (brightness) than standard CRT monitors. For the price of a good 15" Samaung LCD, I would recommend a good quality flatscreen CRT based monitor, by the same manufacturer. Of course if it's just for the sake of having a different experience, well and good. An good LCD is as reliable as any good CRT. No major perks to worry about really.
