If you read the article carefully (or at least it appeared to me as thus), you see the author cite extraneous factors that may, or may not, be a contributing factor. Yet when school officals are interviewed, they cite lack of discipline at home. Gee, parents not raising children they should? I'm shocked and outraged at that accusation!!!

Unfortunately, this does not suprise me. My mom taught kindergarten, and saw/had to deal with kids like that.
 
I teach from 4 to 11year old children, I have had children trying to take a swing at me from quite a few times. Last time was last week when a 7 year old didnt like me taking his paper plane away (I know spoilsport) but the child had a cr@ppy homelife, he said in the morning ' I dont know whos picking me up tonight as dads going to court and then maybe gaol (jail) which doesnt help.
 
This is why I could never be a kindergarden teacher. I would try my hardest to remain calm, but if one of those kids told me to shut up or bit me, they would get a backhand across the face.

Engineering school here I come....
 
i've been saying that in the next 20-30 years when these people grow up the US is going to be one fscking scary place to live

just FYI, the relationship between engineering and marketing is not unlike that between kindergarden teachers and their students. "I want, I want, me me me" "No, that doesn't make sense because..."

My wife's a kindergarten teacher. I don't know how she can put up with it. Personally, I'd probably be rotting in a jail cell right now for having strangled some kid's parents if I'd been in her place.

Sometimes the kids can be bad enough (although in all fairness a lot of kids are still pretty well behaved.) But one of the most difficult aspects that so often goes overlooked is that kindergarten teachers not only have to break in little kids to the way school works, but they also have to break in many parents. As the article said, they're on the "front lines." You can usually see a direct correlation between the way the kid behaves in school after meeting with the parents (which kindergarten teachers do regularly . . . at least around here.) My wife often spends more time talking about the problems she has with certain parents than problems with certain kids.
