Does it void my warranty if I do synthetic oil changes every 6,000 miles?

I'm wondering if my warranty will be voided by changing my oil every 6,000 miles instead of every 4,000 miles as stated in my owner's manual. I plan to use synthetic and I'm confident that extending the interval in this way is not going to do any damage to the car.

I will just run dino oil if it's going to void my warranty, though.

Do a 4k oil change with synthetic and send some off to BlackStone Labs to see if you really can get away with 6k miles with confidence.

I do 5k on my car but that's what the manual specs.

Sounds like your car didn't come with synthetic from the factory so your manual is specifying 3k oil changes.

Subaru switched to 7500 miles for 2011 although it still recommends 3750 for turbo models and there is a lot of debate as to whether or not the 7500 will hurt the engine.

Back on topic, if the owner's manual says 4,000 miles I would change it every 4,000 miles regardless of oil type. Then after the warranty runs out switch over to 6,000 mile changes and get an uoa done. You could always ask the dealership

No, 6,000 miles is very reasonable for full synthetic motor oil. Only thing to worry about is if it is a brand new car, then run whatever motor oil came with it for the first 1,000 miles.
At that point motor is well broken in and a switch to synthetic will be just fine. Some cars, like Corvette, come filled with synthetic from the factory, so the motor would have had some break-in time done after assembly. Synthetic will not void your warranty. Just follow the owner's manual for proper weight and check the level now and then.
It would help to know Make / Model / Engine of car. Odds are the manual is talking about regular oil at 4,000 miles.
Now if you do a lot of stop/go city driving, you may want to change it before 6,000 miles.

I think my car is something like every 12.5K miles for an oil change. Maybe it's bc it's free maintenance for 4 yrs so they are being cheap.

I've never seen an owner's manual allow longer oci with synthetic.

Synthetic won't void your warranty, but extending the interval on your own sure will.

They mean two difrent things, but you might get hassled

Make sure oil meets the proper specs, and get proof it can run for 6k aka blackstone-labs report with tbn

^ Just keep receipts for proof you changed it.

They can also easily tell if they take your oil pan or valve covers off if you have changed it regularly.

If something happens, they have to prove that you doing DIY oil changes incorrectly somehow killed the engine. If you're doing DIY oil changes then you should know the basics of how to do one so I don't see it as a problem. Obviously they can easily tell if the oil hasn't been changed in a long time whether it be DIY or not but that's a different issue. People just need to follow what the manual says and not worry about anything. It never matters where you get your work done, just that it gets done and done properly.

I do 5000 on regular oil and around 10k on Syn or once a year if i don't hit the milage.

5000 on syn is a waste, unless its a heavy modified engine/turbo/etc...
