Does it matter whether I have my main optical drive set to master or slave?

I'm getting a DVD drive and I want to leave my CD writer where it is (in the top slot of my case), but in order to do so I would have to keep it as master on my IDE cable and set the new DVD drive to slave. I'll be using the DVD drive for everything once it's installed, so does it matter if it's set to slave? What are the major differences (if any) between the two settings besides the obvious?

Thanks in advance,

leave the cdrw as master, put the dvd as slave. master gets priority over slave, so you would want the cdrw to be first.

What exactly do you mean by priority? Will the master have faster access/data transfer times? If so, I'd probably want the DVD drive as master, since I'll be using it as my main CD-ROM drive.

Thanks for the response,

if you're planning to use the dvd while burning cd's (like disk->disk copies) you might want to put them on different channels entirely, ie make dvd drive the slave on your other channel, and leave the cd-rw on a channel by itself

I'm not sure if this still applies with the new burnproof technology.

Yeah, I don't think I'd need to do that. I usually copy to the hard drive and then burn. Thanks for the response though.
