Does it matter if <insert favourite game here> is installed on a 5400rpm drive, so long as Virtual Mem is on a 7200?

If all my games and stuff are installed on a 5400rpm drive, but my Virtual memory is on a different disk @ 7200rpm will it make any difference to the game performance? (discluding load time, I'm talking frame rates here)

if you have enough ram (IE no swapping), hard drive speed will have no effect on framerates once the game is loaded.

Right. HD speed will really only affect load times, save times, and transitions from one scene/level/map/scenario to another.

486dx2/66, 8MB EDORAM,

That's not enough to run any sort of proper game anyway! You're going to be too CPU limited to be worried about whether you are using a 5400 or 7200 rpm HD for the swap file.

So you're saying I probably shouldn't put an IBM75GXP in my 486?

Mebbe I should upgrade to one o' them Pentium200s with M M X technologies..those guys in the bright suits are purty cool lookin'
