does it look too desperate when you send an unwarranted recommendation letter?

I was contacted for a position and the person wanted to set up a time to talk. The position seemed like it was something I wanted to do so I naturally wanted to show that I have some experience related to it. I received a recommendation letter from one of the director's I worked under saying I'm a hard worker, great, leader, blah blah and attached it with my reply.

I know getting contacted is already having your foot inside the door but what do you think?

I don't think so. I have my mom write one for every job I apply for. Then she calls them the next week to check on my application.
