Does it look cooler to leave suit jacket unbuttoned?

I was at a funeral the other day and was scanning all attendees to make sure no one had their bottom buttons fastened on their suits. Surprisingly, absolutely no one had any buttons fastened at all. At first I was thinking it was because everyone was so fat, but it could just be cooler to leave them unbuttoned so I did the same. I stopped at a hipster food joint afterwards and got a few weird looks because of my dapper looks, but was ultimately accepted because my jacket wasn’t buttoned. This pretty much confirms my theory, but I want some of the ATOT heavy hitters to weigh in.

Unbuttoned or buttoned? What does the ATOT fashion crew say about this?

Did the corpse have the bottom button unfastened?

Oooh, good question. I don’t know because I didn’t look at the body. I’m not even sure it was open casket. My participation was more of a support role/scoping out potential talent in grieving.

I always thought it was buttoned if you're standing, unbuttoned if you're sitting, and take your coat off if you're going into a car.

That's what i thought too, but it was such a chore to unbutton and button every few times at the last wedding I attended. Maybe those fat guys are on to something.

Why did you have to keep unbuttoning and buttoning your suit at a wedding?

Buttoned of course. If not, my sister will get on my ass about it, and I'll probably get deathly sick.

Was the funeral at a church with a mass? The constant change between sitting and standing would make me keep it unbuttoned. In fact I was at my uncles funeral this past Wednesday and was wearing a suit, and as soon as we sat down, my button became unbuttoned and stayed that way until I did my final stand to walk out of the church.
