Does it bug you when a software installation requires a reboot of your computer?

It does for me. :frown:

IMHO short of driver installations, system patches and stuff like that, you shouldn't need to reboot!

If it's critical software, I don't mind.

But if it's something insignifiant in likeliness of winRAR and things like that and it annoys me.

IIRC a lot of those "you need to restart after installing" messages were BS. I'd run the program before rebooting and it worked just fine.

It generally isn't necessary to reboot with Win2k or WinXP. The software just wants a chance to auto-start (either through registry entries or a service) when Windows starts up or perhaps get its spyware loaded up and reporting your porn habits. In most cases you can just say no, open the software manually, and be on your way.

Yep.. most software would actually work.. but some dumbass will make a check before running the program and prevents you from running it

Drivers or OS Patches I can live with, but freakin Game Installs that require a reboot totally tick me off! Every Microsoft game requires a reboot for God sakes!! :|

Yes.

I hate rebooting.

I almost never do when a program asks me to, though. 90% of the time, the program still works fine.

Yes. Especially when I know it doesn't. Like a video game or a normal application. I always say no and run it first to find out if it really does need a reboot.

Yes.
Stop all downloads, close all applications, save everything, reboot, continue what I was doing...

It freaking sucks. I especially hate it when the program doesn't give you the option.

Windows must now reboot your computer. <OK>

Pisses me off.

That's one of the great things about linux. The only thing you need to reboot for is to change your loaded kernel. Even drivers don't matter. Just turn off the old one, switch to the new one, load it up, turn it on. Voila! :)

I agree, the only ones I hate are the ones that dont give you an option. I just never reboot until I need to. 99% of the software I ever install doesnt -need- a reboot anyway...

I usually don't reboot. Most program installs that call for that seem to work fine without reboot.
