You make some of the most one-dimensional and worthless threads on all of ATOT, nothing more than your generally average white middle class experiences. Aside from "Grrrrrr SUV drivers gas prices my bicycle" (which doesn't count), what threads have you made addressing a problem in society? At least he's asking a question.

Fuck off shitbag. What have you done to address the problems in our society?

I bring this stuff up constantly here in my replies.

That's how it's been in most languages that have gender-specific noun variations.
Collective groupings almost always use the appropriate masculine noun.

Now, if it's a collective grouping comprised of only females, grammatically it is indeed incorrect to use a masculine noun when addressing or referring to them.

I sometimes use "ladies" with a group of girls, but I feel bad b/c that's almost exclusively used as an insult directed at a group of dudes. :\

Now, now dudes. Hamburger Boy is right - you do have an enviable upper middle class lifestyle in one of the best places in the country which makes you a ripe target for criticism (lol), but you also have a point that I should have added a "this is the most important problem our society faces" option because communication is everything. Without it, we would have no real society to speak of. ():)

I use guys in reference to girls and it does not bother me when other people do it. I don't normally call girls dudes though.

Does it count if they are the incorrectly addressed gender themselves? My neice says "dude" to chicks all the time, including her mother.

hmmm...

if i am in a group with both guys and girls, and someone says 'hey guys' ..idc.
if i am in a group with both guys and girls, and someone says 'hey dudes' ..idc.
i might add 'and gals' or 'and dudettes' if i feel like being feisty. ;)

however, if someone is specifically talking to me and says 'dude', i'd say, 'i'm not a dude'. unless i know them really well and the situation calls for it (usually gaming i expect it more than every day speech).

basically, it depends but, either way, it's not something that bothers me that much.

EDIT: nvm, found it.

I'm not implicitly arguing that ATOT should be dedicated to srs real life business.

"Ladies" to me would referring to a group of older women (like considerably older than I am). Referring to some plural of women as "guys" would indicate to me that in that particular reference I think the gender is not important.

Does it bother me that there is seemingly no simple way of generalizing women/men with a single short word in the English language? Yes.

Do I think that was the purpose of the poll? No.

Voted no because I'm not "annoyed" by the fact, but rather the lack of an alternative without resorting to hick style "ya'll".

Clearly we need to invent a girls/guys hybrid. How about guyrs?
