My wireless network is an internet (intermediate). It is among/in the midst of other networks (the Internet and my wired network).

Here

If you mean Internet, then no. It doesn't bother me. I refer to it that way.

EDIT: Fusetalk fuck'd that one up. :|

Not particularly, because I know a guy running a wireless internet provider that is LITERALLY a ghettoriffic array of overpowered 802.11g access points parked on top of some tall sticks with an FCC permit.

Okay, maybe that's a slight oversimplification, he doesn't have Linksys routers strapped to towers, he has purpose-built x86 routers with 3 NICs (one omnidirectional, two directional pointing at other towers) - and of course all 3 signals are amplified. Depending on customer distance from the tower and type of install (obviously mobiles will just get a NIC), he'll either install a simple wireless NIC, an outdoor directional antenna on the wireless NIC, or in the case of people with way too much money, an outdoor directional antenna connected to one of his tower-routers with an amplifier cranked up to just shy of the FCC maximum range.

Simple, effective, and rather popular in a place where the only broadband is satellite. Not terribly profitable, but he now has broadband at home, after years and years of using his cell phone for 144kbps internet access.

It does, however, piss me off when people call hubs or switches "Routers"

IT MAKES ME WANT TO EAT THEIR BRAINS!

The MySystemRigs thing handles the specs just fine.

No, because it is correct.

You cannot reach any other hosts except Internet ones, so it is indeed wireless internet.

No thats not true, if you have a WIFI network which is what it generally is then you can access other hosts. It's not always "wireless internet" and it's damn confusing. It's understandable if some adult trying to refer to wifi saying, Oh this morning I was able to get "wireless internet at starbucks" but it's irritating when I hear some loser kid who thinks he's 1337 referring it as "wireless internet".

Most public wireless networks force a redirect to a proxy for security purposes.

Yes, once again when it pertains to communications or building networks I am correct. Wireless internet is the correct term.

Or in marketing its called "hi-speed wireless internet", thereby differentiating it from other wireless services that aren't necessarily hi-spped.

It's simply wireless LAN that happens to have a gateway to the internet providing wireless conectivity. It's really irritating too because I have no clue what technology they are referring to and have to assume it's WIFI.

Perhaps professional help can give you guidancce on how to not be so sensitive to such mundane technicalities.

The optiplex machine, ever build a machine fred? Why isn't the machine your posting on not the one you built?

I've built plenty of them. It got boring. The ones you can buy at the store end up being cheaper nowadays, and they run all my software (not many games) just as well.

The Optiplex machine is a P4 1.8, with 512MB of RAM, some ATI Rage card, and other OEM Dell componenets.

The 600m is a laptop, which is a good reason for me to not have built it myself, I think.

I wouldn't say the machines you can buy at the store are cheaper for many reasons.

Ever wonder how much you're making versus how much notfred is making?
You're about 16 years old and don't have a goddamn clue what the fsck really matters. 95% of the populace seems a computer like an appliance, that performs a set of tasks.

I could go into detail about the timings of the PCI bus that you have absolutely no clue about. Does this make me better than you? You probably don't even have the faintest idea how data is carried over a carrier frequency to get your so-called 'wireless internet' - so stfu about 'omg I can plugz0r components into slots and make a computer!!! its so fast!!!!!!!!!!11111111111oneone'

Please go ahead, I would like to see you go into extreme detail about the PCI bus. I know plenty about computers, I won't be phased by what you say. Be as techincal as you want but you will still not confuse me. The best buy ad with the puppet put it perfectly, "you can access the internet wirelessly, it's called wireless networking", said the lady.
Wireless networking you say, says the puppet. :music: I'm free I'm free,.....:music:

I would love to see how much you truely know about computers. I'm not like most people who think, "Hum just plug this in and your done!" and couldn't careless how it works, just that it works. I hear retards all the time who attempt to make fun of me and say, "he eats gigaherts for breakfast" or say, "how fast is your motherboardprocessorCPUmegabytes???????". While I could assume stereo types and assume most 16 year olds< who actually "build" computers (just stick parts together and your done) couldn't care less about how all the parts work together, I do see every so often (quite rare though) kids who know quite a bit and don't try to boast thier knowledge.

actually, I do infact have "Wireless Internet" :)

www.ciaccess.com > Read about airNET. :)

I have heard of that as well which is why it pisses me off when people say "wireless internet". Because again they are not specifying HOW THEY ARE GETTING ON THE INTERNET. That is true wireless internet because your directly hooked up to the provider.
