Does Intel 915G Desktop Board support SATA hot swap?

I can't seem to get this to work... I was hoping to make an i915G desktop board into a server that uses a SATA disk as removable storage (for making backups). However, it seems that the system locks when I remove the drive and doesn't really respond well until I put it back in. The software I've found on Intel's site seems to suggest I only use the Intel Matrix Storage drivers for RAID boards (ICH6R), of which mine isn't (ICH6).

Does anyone know if I'm able to hot-swap SATA disks with this board? or could the problem be with my OS?
