Does installing .inf/.icm driver for LCD monitor make any difference?

I have an Acer 22" widescreen LCD (AL2223W), which works just fine in driver-less Plug-and-Play mode. I installed the .inf driver and .icm color profile from Acer for this monitor, but don't see any difference in the colors. In what scenario would the driver/color profile make a difference?

It really doesnt matter unless the display is non-standard in some way.
